Item description
The chart provides some basic information on the stages of language acquisition and general ideas of how teachers can support students at each stage. The chart is editable so that teachers can add the names of their students into the chart at their stage of language acquisition. This generic chart is a great starting place for understanding the stages.
Please note that 2 large state consortia (WIDA and ELPA21) and several individual states (California, NY, Texas, and Connecticut) have more specific descriptors of what each stage means, what students can do at each stage, and how teachers can support students with language development across content areas.
