Item description

This guide provides Socratic Seminar discussion questions and a brief synopsis for every chapter of Farewell to Manzanar, Jeanne Wakatsuki’s memoir about her experiences in a Japanese internment camp in California during World War II.  Socratic Seminars focus on open-ended questions which can be answered in more than one way.  The teacher’s role is that of discussion facilitator.  The students construct meaning as they give voice to ideas that they can support with evidence from the text.  A two-page introduction describes the benefits of conducting Socratic Seminars and briefly outlines how seminars are conducted.
