Norm setting is critical to effective group facilitation, but I often find it cold and non-collaborative. Rather than merely establishing norms, I prefer to help the teachers that I support come to know me and understand my beliefs before as I share the commitments I’m willing to make to them. Then, I invite them to do the same. This helps us establish meaningful norms, but it accomplishes much more as well. This is where I begin. Use, adapt, and share as you like.
